FIELD-BASED OUTREACH ROOTED IN DIGNITY
John's Dignity is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving unhoused neighbors throughout the Greater Oklahoma City Metro. As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we bring meals, clothing, personal-care supplies, cold-weather gear, and encouragement directly to people living in encampments, wooded areas, and railroad-adjacent locations.
OUR STORY
A PERSONAL CRISIS THAT BECAME A COMMUNITY MISSION
John's Dignity began after a personal crisis reshaped how founders Mike and Kim understood homelessness. During that experience, an encounter with an unhoused man challenged assumptions and made the need for dignity-centered outreach impossible to ignore. The organization began in February 2026 with 11 sack lunches and a simple conviction: every person deserves to be seen, treated with respect, and reminded that they have not been forgotten.
What started small quickly became a field-based outreach effort serving neighbors throughout the Greater Oklahoma City Metro. Rather than waiting for people to reach a storefront or navigate transportation barriers, John's Dignity brings support directly to encampments, wooded areas, railroad-adjacent locations, and other places traditional services may not reach.

PRACTICAL HELP DELIVERED DIRECTLY
Our volunteers prepare and distribute complete sack lunches, clothing, blankets, toiletries, personal-care supplies, dog food, and other essentials. We also offer limited non-emergency transportation and help neighbors connect with housing and community resources. Every lunch includes a handwritten note of encouragement because practical support and genuine human connection belong together.
John's Dignity is not a shelter, permanent-housing provider, emergency medical service, or ambulance service. Our role is direct street outreach: meeting immediate needs, reducing barriers, and helping neighbors connect with resources that can support their next step.

What You Want to Know About Our Work in Oklahoma City
How did John's Dignity get started, and who founded it?
John's Dignity was founded by Mike and his wife after a personal experience at a crisis center reshaped how Kenneth understood homelessness. While he initially felt confined by the facility, an unhoused man he met there described it as a blessing for its safety and meals. That contrast prompted Kenneth and his wife to act. They launched their outreach in February 2026 with 11 sack lunches and a simple goal: make sure every neighbor they met felt seen and valued. The organization has grown from that first day of outreach into a field-based nonprofit serving unhoused neighbors across the Greater Oklahoma City Metro.
Is John's Dignity a registered nonprofit, and are donations tax-deductible?
Yes. John's Dignity is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means monetary and material contributions are tax-deductible. The organization uses GoFundMe for monetary donations to maintain visible financial transparency, and leadership regularly shares distribution photos, receipts, and updates so donors can see exactly how their contributions are being used. Because the founders take no salaries and overhead is kept extremely low, donations go directly toward purchasing and delivering supplies to unhoused neighbors in the Greater OKC Metro. Why does John's Dignity go out into the field instead of operating a fixed location?
Many unhoused neighbors in the Greater Oklahoma City Metro live in wooded areas, encampments, and railroad-adjacent locations that are far from traditional service hubs like shelters or soup kitchens. Getting to those stationary resources requires transportation and communication tools that many people simply do not have. John's Dignity removes that barrier entirely by bringing meals, clothing, and resources directly to where people are. This field-based approach also allows the organization to shift routes based on where the need is most acute, rather than waiting for neighbors to come to them. What kinds of help does John's Dignity provide during outreach?
John's Dignity delivers complete sack lunches containing a sandwich, chips, crackers, a dessert, and a drink, along with bottled water and other prepared food items. The organization also distributes clothing such as shirts, pants, socks, shoes, and jackets, as well as personal care products, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, and blankets. During Oklahoma's cold-weather periods, heavy blankets and warm layers are prioritized. Beyond physical goods, the team assists with housing and resource navigation, including guidance on obtaining missing identification documents, and provides limited non-emergency transportation to churches, hospitals, and community appointments. Why does John's Dignity include dog food in outreach supplies?
Many unhoused neighbors travel with dogs, and their bond with those animals is genuine and important. People in this situation often prioritize their pet's nutrition over their own. By providing dog food during outreach, John's Dignity ensures that the human neighbor is also more likely to eat the meal provided. It is a practical act of care that honors the human-animal bond while also maximizing the nutritional impact of every $0.50 lunch the organization delivers. How does John's Dignity make a full meal possible for just $0.50?
The organization purchases food and supplies in bulk, which significantly reduces the per-unit cost of each item. Combined with a near-zero overhead model, where leadership takes no salaries and there is no physical storefront to maintain, the savings are passed directly into the field. The result is a complete sack lunch, including a sandwich, chips, crackers, a dessert, and a drink, delivered for an average cost of $0.50 per person. This level of efficiency is a core part of how John's Dignity builds and maintains donor trust. What services are outside the scope of what John's Dignity offers?
John's Dignity is not a shelter and does not provide overnight facilities or permanent housing. It does not offer emergency medical services, dispatch ambulances, or provide high-risk medical transportation. The organization also does not distribute cash directly to recipients. These boundaries are clearly stated in all outreach and communications so that neighbors, donors, and community partners have accurate expectations. John's Dignity operates as a field-based street outreach organization, and its role is to complement, not replace, the broader network of services available in the Greater Oklahoma City Metro. How can local churches, businesses, or civic groups get involved with John's Dignity?
John's Dignity actively partners with community organizations across the Greater Oklahoma City Metro, including churches and local resource centers. Partners can support the mission by organizing donation drives for clothing, socks, toiletries, backpacks, sleeping bags, or non-perishable food items. Civic groups and businesses can also contribute through bulk purchasing partnerships or by helping fund outreach runs. The organization values relationships with community partners as a key part of its accountability and growth, and welcomes conversations with any group that shares a commitment to caring for unhoused neighbors.
